A Vote for KPL

Hello fair readers,

(specifically those in Kalamazoo, Michigan)

Important news update.  The Kalamazoo Public Library has a millage renewal vote coming up on May 5th, this Tuesday.  For some good info and details check out this site:

But first…let me tell you a little about KPL.

Reference Area of KPL

Reference Area of KPL

I have worked and been in many libraries in my 26 years of living.  But I can tell you that KPL is special.  There is just something about the connection of the people who work there and the way they provide amazing resources to the citizens of Kalamazoo.  I’m talking not just book groups but free monthly legal clinics, grant writing classes, art exhibitions and this is on top of the collections of books, DVDs, specialized sections for small businesses, history buffs and local attorneys.

This library literally has something for everyone.  From the local artwork in the children’s department to the Westlaw terminal in the Law Library.  Kalamazoo is truly blessed to have such an amazing library at their finger tips.  The library won the Library of the Year award in 2002 but that isn’t even the half of it.  This library *is* Kalamazoo.  It embodies what is wonderful about that town: an open, educated, cultural location in which all are welcome.

So get out and do your part.  Your small part in keeping this library alive and thriving.  Get out and vote on May 5th.  I promise you will not regret it. Not one bit.

Have a lovely week fair readers.

Leah the Librarian Votes.

Hello fair readers,

Today is a grand and beautiful day.  It is Election Day.

And in the spirit of Democracy and full disclosure, here is exactly how I voted in Chicago, IL.

Proposed Call for a Constitutional Convention: No

President and Vice President of the United States: Barack Obama and Joe Biden

United States Senator: Richard J. Durbin

U.S. Representative, 5th District: Rahm Emanuel

State Senator, 6th District: John J. Cullerton

State Representative, 11th District: John A. Fritchey

Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Commissioners: Frank Avila (Dem), Kathleen Therese Meany (Dem), Nadine Bopp (Green)

State’s Attorney: Anita Alvarez (Dem)

Clerk of the Circuit Court: Dorothy A. Brown (Dem)

Recorder of Deeds: Eugene “Gene” Moore

OK so I’m not listing out all the judges who are running unopposed because that just seems silly and there’s a lot of them.  I will however list the Judges I voted for in the Circuit Court:

Thomas E. Flanagan, Themis N. Kamazis, James Patrick Flannery, Sebastian Thomas Patti, Michelle Francene Lowrance, Evelyn B. Clay, John J. Fleming, Kathleen G. Kennedy, Barbara A. McDonald, James L. Rhodes, David P. Sterba, Kenneth J. Wadas, Gregory Joseph Wojkowski, Robert E. Gordon, Lewis Noxon, Thomas J. Lipscomb.

And finally, “Shall the Illinois Constitution be amended to establish a recall process for the office of Governor and other statewide elected official?”

No.

Welp, get out and vote fair readers!  And be a good American. :)

Patriotism (Librarian Style)

Hello fair readers!

As I’m sure many of you know another major election is upon us.

And while many of you know who I prefer….

ehem

The most important thing right now is that everyone is registered to vote!

So while I pretty much depise MTV, the best thing they have ever done is to create Rock the Vote.

Go to:

www.rockthevote.com

you can register to vote easily and online.  You just have to print this little sheet out and mail it.  How easy is that?  Seriously.

Don’t be lame.

And then after registering, do the world a favor and vote for a candidate that’s actually worth a damn.

Oh yeah, you know it. :)

Have a lovely Sunday fair readers!
